West Coast Vancouver Island

The rugged West Coast of Vancouver Island

The West Coast is not heavily populated and therefore it tends to be on the rustic side.

Don't get me wrong...there are certainly some lovely luxury resorts (they'll even provide rainwear for storm watching, and lessons for surfing big waves), but this area is extremely popular with the back-to-nature crowd who prefer to camp out and enjoy the West Coast experience up close.

If you do choose camping over a hotel or resort, be aware that you’ll need to be very careful about how you handle food and garbage. That’s because you'll be sharing the land with bears, cougars and other local wildlife.

And, if you’re lucky, you’ll be able to photograph some of these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat.
