When planning your next fishing adventure, a Vancouver Island salmon fishing holiday has to be on your list. Fishing in these pristine waters and great scenery, combined with the variety of wildlife, this area has much to offer can be a dream come true!

Vancouver Island Salmon Fishing Vancouver Island is 280 miles long and between 30 and 50 miles wide with the centre of the island being very mountainous with the highest mountain being 9000 feet above sea level.

The climate is one of the mildest in Canada with winter temperatures sitting around 0C (32 F) and in summer the average day time temperatures are usually around the mid 20’s C (around 75F).

Getting to your Vancouver Island salmon fishing holiday is a breeze with flights being offered by major airlines as well as smaller services.

Ferry services operate from several departure points on the mainland. Hire car are available so you can drive yourself around.

Accommodation options are plentiful, you can choose from Bed and Breakfasts, cabins, hostels and camping areas to motels, lodges and resorts. Many of the lodges and resorts offer packages which include fishing charters, guides tackle and boats. Some times of year are better for catching certain species. Checking with locals and charter companies will be helpful.

Salmon fishing charters and guides are plentiful and operate from the main fishing areas such as Ucluelet. Situated on the west Coast it is about 5 ½ hour’s drive by car and ferry (about 90 minutes) from Vancouver and is a Mecca for salmon fishermen.

Around 15 miles off shore you can pick up the average Halibut of around 20 pounds but 50 to enormous 100 pounders are not uncommon. Salmon species include Coho, Chinook, Sockeye, Pink and Chum and this area is well known for the Chinook averaging 20 pounds up to 50 pounds.

Tofino and Port Renfrew are nearby and also offer great fishing. Port Alberni is often referred to as the Salmon capital of the world. The Alberni Inlet has some of the largest salmon runs in the world. Barkley Sound, Bamfield and the Broken Group of Islands also offer fantastic fishing.

Along the east coast, Campbell River, Courtenay/Comox, Deep Bay and Port Hardy offer the Vancouver Island Salmon Fishing adventurer some wonderful catches of large Chinooks but also offers amazing scenery, clear blue waters with an amazing backdrop of mountain ranges.

There are numerous places to fish on and around the island and you can be sure to catch some good sized salmon. Whilst enjoying your Vancouver Island salmon fishing holiday there are many thing to see and do apart from fishing.

There are numerous sports such as Kayaking, skiing, hiking and golf to name a few and of course whilst in this area whale watching is also a spectacular pastime. Gray, Humpback and Orca can all be seen in waters off the island.
