Vancouver Island North
Northern Vancouver Island

Vacationing on Vancouver Island North or the North Island can be an adventurous experience.

Enjoy wildlife watching, water activities, fishing, spelunking, biking and hiking in this beautiful area.

Northern Vancouver Island is known for its unusual land formations, including sink holes, natural canyons and even a rapidly flowing river that disappears into rocks.

The Browning Wall off North Vancouver Island is the best dive site in British Columbia and one of the top 5 cold water dive areas in the world.

And, The Nakwakto Rapids in Seymour Inlet boasts the fastest tidal rapids—in the world!

North Vancouver Island Communities

The towns in the North Vancouver Island region tend to be smaller than those found near Victoria to the south. And the area is more remote and wild than other areas on the island.

You can go on a bear watching tour (in a boat) or watch some of the most interesting whales, dolphins or sea otters with a guide. Beautiful birds, including eagles, are also abundant.

When visiting, you’ll see lots of boats, many beautiful vistas and you’ll meet friendly people who will be happy to please…

  • Telegraph Cove BC - Telegraph Cove is a small fishing village with friendly people and lots to see. Many people who come here enjoy kayaking while they are here…

  • Port Hardy BC - The end of the line for the road leading to North Island, Port Hardy has its share of restaurants, shops, totem poles, chain saw carvings and hotels…

  • Port Hardy Weather - This weather report will give you an idea of the weather on the North Coast...

  • Zeballos Vancouver Island - Gold was discovered in Zeballos in the 1920s. You might enjoy trying your hand at gold panning. Or, if you are not into panning for gold, you might appreciate the world famous salmon fishing and kayaking here…

  • Port McNeill British Columbia - Located on the northern tip of Vancouver Island, Port McNeill has accommodations, campgrounds, gift shops, art galleries, pubs, gas stations, restaurants, a grocery store and even a local strip mall.

  • Nakwakto Rapids - The tidal currents (about 22 knots) here are the fastest navigable currents in the world. Because of this, experienced divers consider this area to be a great challenge. But you have to know when it’s safe to scuba dive here…

  • Scuba Diving BC - There are several areas that have good scuba diving. Bring your own equipment or you can rent it here…

  • Comox Valley - The Comox Valley is a fun place to visit, with over 50 events and festivals each year. And Mount Washington Ski Resort is here, as well…

  • Comox BC - Comox BC, located in the greater Comox Valley, is more quiet than towns further to the south. But, don’t let that fool you. Comox has lots of interesting things to do…

No matter what your pleasure, if you love the outdoors, you are sure to find something to enjoy on Vancouver Island North.

And each of you will certainly fall in love with every one of these picturesque seaside towns—and their people!
