Vancouver Island Hiking
Umlimited trails: a hikers paradise!

Vancouver Island Hiking is any hiker’s dreams come true.

The Island is truly a tourist’s paradise. Its diversity and beauty attracts people from many different parts of the world. It has a large area and very low population and the terrain is varied with beautiful beaches, rainforests, meadows, mountains, rivers and lakes. These varied ecosystems make Vancouver Island a beautiful place to holiday and hike besides being famous for it's whales, bird watching and fishing.

With such variety, Vancouver Island hiking is one of the well known sports around the world. The island has trails for young and old alike and the difficulty level of these trails is varied. Some of them are meant for novices and while others are only for experts. These trails have been constructed by volunteers from various municipalities, logging companies, clubs and the forest department.

Generally it is seen that the urban and front country trails are quite well built and modern while the back country trails are just trails with no facilities and are great for those that love adventure.

If you are one of those who are planning any hiking then keep in mind to stock up your emergency supplies like a torch/flashlight and a rain coat and bring a map along. If you really want to get into the wild then we suggest that you try the Strathcona Provincial Park (Central Vancouver Island). This is ideal for those mountain mamas! The trails are treacherous and can give you a true taste of Vancouver Island hiking.

Another wild trail which truly tests a hiker’s abilities is the Cape Scott Provincial Park (At the northern tip of the Island!). This is one of the windiest locales of the island. Human habitation is scarce and all you have is wild animals for company. So in case you are a real “toughie” who is looking for some serious hiking, this particular hiking venue is the place for you.
