Pacific Rim Festival on Vancouver Island

The annual Pacific Rim Festival on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada will be held from March 19 to 27, 2011.

This festival, held on the wild West Coast of Vancouver Island, heralds the return of the whales to Vancouver Island for the warmer months.

Up to 20,000 grey whales will be passing by the Island, on their northbound migration from the Baja Peninsula (Mexico) to Alaska's Bering Strait and beyond.

And the west coast towns of of Tofino and Ucluelet and the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve will all be having events to celebrate the coming of spring, and the whales.

In addition to the usual fun events, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Pacific Rim Festival, there is a video contest, A Whale of a Story, open to legal residents of Canada. You can create a 5 minute video and enter the contest, if you are a resident of Canada.

To learn more about the festival and the video contest, click on the link below.
