How to Use the Vancouver Island Map

Vancouver Island can be divided into general regions.
  • Victoria and southeast - This is the most populous area--and the region with most of the amenities. If you like vacations that include shopping, microbrews, museums, antiquing, and different kinds of restaurants--this area might be your choice.

  • Sunshine Coast - the eastern side of the island, but north of the Victoria area. This is where you’ll find the best swimming beaches--and the warmest water!

  • Interior Vancouver Island - If you’re a skiier or a hiker, you might like to visit the mountains in the interior.

  • Pacific Rim - This is the west coast. It has beaches, but it tends to be more on the wild side--big waves and storms during the winter months. This is where people go surfing, storm watching and to hike the challenging West Coast Trail.

  • North Island - Sparsely populated, this area is great for observing wildlife and hiking. If you plan to go here, you will need to make reservations early for your accommodations. There are a limited number of places to stay--and they fill up fast!

Here is another Vancouver Island map. Sometimes having a second map helps you see things more clearly.
