Known as “The land of plenty”, visiting Comox will certainly give you plenty of things to do.

The small, residential town has a population of approximately 13,000 residents and lies on the eastern coast of Vancouver Island, a short way east of Courtenay, with it's own beach-front and airport!

The town is surrounded by a large valley (known as the Comox Valley) and is known for its beautiful locale.

It's only two hours thirty minutes north from Victoria or about 225 kms. Take highway #1 onto highway #19: Comox is just east of Courtenay.

You could also arrive on Vancouver Island, by ferry, at Nanaimo and then go north for about 124 kms.

The town is home to Canadian Forces Base Comox (CFBC)which is primarily used for Royal Air Force operations and is a major employer and supporter of the community.

The airstrips there can also be used commercially for flights to particular destinations in and out of the community, particularly from Alberta, Canada.

A biennial air show is hosted at the base and if you visit during that time is a fantastic show for people of all ages. The CFB is also home to the Comox Air Force Museum which is a great place to learn about the history of the Royal Air Force and check out several vintage planes.

Finally, Cumberland has a mining museum where you can learn about its importance to the area and its history.

Among other diversions in the area are three yearly, summer festivals. In the beginning of every August there is the Filberg Festival which showcases hundreds of different artists over the course of several days.

During the same time are Nautical Days, which showcases the importance of the waters to the community and has many different celebratory events and demonstrations.

There is also the CYMC which is a three week long affair focused on musical performances and workshops.

For those looking to stay active, there are plenty of recreational activities within the town.

Fishing is popular and you can partake in all forms from river and lake to saltwater fishing which is easily accessible from the many marinas.

Other water sports are popular, as is sailing, and there are a handful of golf courses nearby. Additionally, there are lots of options for those looking to explore the wilderness and go hiking or camping. Nearby Strathcona Provincial Park affords that opportunity and Mount Washington is a great place to go skiing.

There are many other parks including Filberg Park. Filberg Park is home to the famous Filberg Lodge which is a testament to fine stone and wood craftsmanship. There are beautiful gardens of local flora as well as an herb garden. There is also an amazing totem pole within Filberg Park.
